Mutafa Ka’plêse, ABC’s Senior Vice President of Programming, Making Decision to Cancel ‘Roseanne’ Is A False Meme

Reports that Mutafa Ka’plêse, ABC’s senior vice president of programming, made the decision to cancel the popular sitcom “Roseanne” are false. There is no truth to a meme claiming the ABC executive and member of Barack Obama’s “Choom Gang” canceled the reboot—the meme was published by a well-known purveyor of fake news.

According to Snopes, the false meme was shared on Facebook by America’s Last Line of Defense, a page that describes itself as a source of satire. The meme was shared with the caption, “GO TO FOX ROSEANNE!!!” and reads,”This is Mutafa Ka’plêse, Senior Vice President of Programming at ABC,” the meme reads. “He is the one who made the decision to cancel ‘Roseanne.’ He’s also a member of Barack ‘Barry Sotero’ Obama’s Indonesian Choom Gang. Coincidence?” The meme garnered more than 3,000 shares, however, it is not real.

The meme is entirely fabricated. Mutafa Ka’plêse does not exist and there is no senior vice president of programming at ABC. Furthermore, the man pictured in the meme is actually singer Julio Iglesias and the “Choom Gang” detail is, of course, also fake. The Last Line of Defense clearly states none of its posts are real. “It is a collection of the satirical whimsies of liberal trolls masquerading as conservatives,” the page’s “About” section reads. “You have been warned.” Additionally, a disclaimer on their website states they are nothing more than “a whimsical playland of conservative satire,” adding:

Everything on this website is fiction. It is not a lie and it is not fake news because it is not real. If you believe that it is real, you should have your head examined. Any similarities between this site’s pure fantasy and actual people, places and events are purely coincidental and all images should be considered altered and satirical.

“Roseanne” was canceled on Tuesday after Roseanne Barr sent a racist, since-deleted tweet about former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett. Within hours of the tweet being posted, ABC canceled the show. “Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment, said in a statement, per Variety. Dungey was the one who made the decision to cancel the reboot.

As previously reported, there have been numerous fake stories to come out of the “Roseanne” cancellation. Several articles have claimed that CBS, Fox and Netflix announced they were picking up the show, while another report claimed that President Donald Trump had ordered C-SPAN to release a second season. There is no truth, however, to any of these reports. “Roseanne” has not been picked up by any network following Dungey’s decision to cancel it.
