So, you’re a budding new creative with a bit of experience in the game, and now you want to take your brand to the next level? You’re finally looking to build a community of your own, take up something new, and have an influence??

Well… I’m here to help you with one of those things…

Disclaimer: Once again, do NOT go quit your job or anything crazy like that based on what an enthusiastic 20-year-old blogger told you to do on the internet, think wisely before you make a big decision that’ll drastically change your life.

Anyhow, let’s get advising…

First of all, I would like to preface this post by saying that I’ve been building pre-existing brand, UBTV, during my free time at university. UBTV is, put simply, a student-run TV Station (YouTube channel).

Since I took over their social media accounts mid-September, we’ve read and/or responded to practically every comment on our YouTube channel and grown on our other platforms by ~10%.

While 10% may not seem like a lot, it reflects a growth of hundreds of new faces in our ever growing community… And it’s only been a month.

Nonetheless, let’s dive in!

How to have unlimited original ideas

Yep… It took me a while to figure this one out too. I know a lot of people are going to hate me for giving this secret away, but here goes:

Don’t.

Get it?

Alright, let me explain.

There are two ways I can explain this, but for ease, let I’m just going to give you the easy explanation:

Steal your ideas… Artistically.

I’m not going to go into toooooo much depth here, because there’s a great book that sums all of this up in a fascinating way which you can find here.

Briefly, find something worth stealing, get 3 similar ideas, then break them down into their core parts. Try to see where the creators were coming from. If you can think like them, make your own content with your own little twist.

Don’t copy, steal. Make it your own.

Not enough? Here are some content ideas you can, well, steal:

Throwbacks

Promoting events, videos, blog posts of your own

Promoting events, videos, blog posts from other in your field

Tutorials/How-Tos

‘Meet the team’

FAQs/Things you don’t know

Behind the scenes/re-posts

Industry specific memes

Now, I know what you’re thinking:

“This is great and all… But how does this help me grow?”

The truth is, it doesn’t have to.

Realistically, more content leads to more exposure, which leads to more follows. Better or more diverse content draws more eyes and hence more followers, too.

Some apps I use are Repost, Hootsuite and Crowdfire. Repost is for directly copying Instagram posts from another creator across to your profile. Hootsuite is my go-to for scheduling posts and Crowdfire is how I analyse our followers from a more community focused standpoint.

There’s also YouTube Studio, Canva and Adobe Photoshop Express for viewing analytics, making thumbnails and editing photos, respectively.

And now, here’s the fun part…

How do I do it all in 30 minutes?

Buckle up, I think you’ll like this…

I don’t!

I’m actually working on it all the time, but let me explain.

The key to creative prowess is experience. Surfing the ‘gram for 10 minutes give me all the exposure I need to the winning marketing trends in the game.

It takes 4 scrolls through my Twitter ‘TL’ to tell me exactly what’s going on in the industry and exactly what I need to do next to get ahead.

The blueprint is already there, you just have to read it.

After that, it’s as simple as adding your own twist, scheduling posts and going on about your day.

The message here is to stop sitting around thinking about what to do next. Hopefully, this post will inspire you to look at things differently and to form ideas from basically anywhere, leaving you with nothing left to do but create!

That’s about all from today though, I’ve been discussing this in more detail on YouTube, which you can find here, thanks in advance! Thanks to anyone who’s made it this far, I hope this post was of use to someone.

Finally, hold 👏 clap hit follow if you found this interesting. It’ll keep me going for a week. You’re great!
