Hillary Clinton Saying ‘Trump Deplorables’ Were ‘Biggest Threats To America’ Is A False Meme

Hillary Clinton saying that President Donald Trump’s deplorables were the “biggest threats to America” is a false meme. There is no truth behind a meme circulating social media that the former U.S. Secretary of State and 2016 U.S. presidential candidate issued a warning in a May 2018 speech to the University of California Berkeley with regards to “Trump deplorables,” calling them “the biggest threats to America.” Clinton has been the subject of many fake news, tweets, photographs and memes.

Where did this meme originate? America’s Last Line Of Defense posted the false meme on May 19, 2018, claiming that made a speech to students at the University of California where she told them that “Trump deplorables” were a problem for the future of this country. The meme read:

Hillary Clinton at the University of California, Berkeley, May 16th:

“We must guard the future from the idiocy and ignorance of the Trump deplorables. They are the biggest threats to America.”

However, there is no truth to the above meme. There is no record of Clinton having spoken at The University of California in May 2018. During the 2016 presidential election, Clinton called half of Trump’s supporters a “basket of deplorables.” Speaking at a fundraiser, she said they were “racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic – you name it.” Clinton later apologized for her criticism of Trump’s supporters but promised to keep fighting “bigotry and racist rhetoric.”

Finally, and most importantly, America’s Last Line of Defense clearly provides a disclaimer outlining its satirical intentions to its readers:

“Nothing on this page is real. It is a collection of the satirical whimsies of liberal trolls masquerading as conservatives. You have been warned.”

However, some people took the meme as real and posted some responses to it on America’s Last Line of Defense’s Facebook page. Here are some examples of people not getting the joke on social media.

After the 2016 presidential election, Clinton said that her decision to label many Trump supporters “deplorables” was a “political gift” to Trump. Clinton offered some unvarnished remarks about the political race. “If you look at the map of the United States, there’s all that red in the middle where Trump won,” Clinton said. “I win the coast. I win, you know, Illinois and Minnesota — places like that.”
She said, “But what the map doesn’t show you is that I won the places that represent two-thirds of America’s gross domestic product. So I won the places that are optimistic, diverse, dynamic, moving forward.”

What did you think of the meme falsely claiming that Clinton said that Trump’s deplorables were the “biggest threats to America”? Did you believe the meme with the fake information or see people sharing it falsely on social media? Let us know in the comments section.
