Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange has a prominent role in the upcoming “Avengers: Infinity War” but right now the good doctor does not have any concrete plans for a standalone sequel. The first film introducing Marvel fans to Doctor Strange made $677 million worldwide. While a sequel is no doubt in the works, it would seem to not be happening any time in the near future.

Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange was last seen in last year’s “Thor Ragnarok” and is all set to be a big part of the upcoming two “Avengers” films. Asked when he would get another full-on “Doctor Strange” film, Cumberbatch told EW: “Not at the moment, no. The masterplan is continually in flux, so it would be out of order for me to speculate.” So, fans will have to wait patiently for another outing.

The sequel was carefully set up in 2016’s Doctor Strange, which closed with Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Baron Mordo beginning to take his first steps to become a villain.

Marvel has been cautious about revealing what will happen with the Marvel cinematic universe after the fourth “Avengers” is released next year with only “Spider-Man Homecoming 2” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” confirmed at this point, though a “Black Panther 2” seems a certainty.

Here are some reactions on social media to the need for a Doctor Strange sequel.

Doctor Strange starred Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme along with Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, Benedict Wong as Wong, with Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One and Mads Mikkelsen as the villain Kaecilius. Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg, Scott Adkins, and Amy Landecker also starred.

The film is directed by Scott Derrickson from a script by Jon Spaihts and C. Robert Cargill. Marvel’s Doctor Strange follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel cinematic universe.

The actual nominees for the Oscar are Stephane Ceretti, Richard Bluff, Vincent Cirelli, and Paul Corbould, a.k.a. the folks responsible for creating the movie’s eye-popping FX, which earned them a nod in the Best Visual Effects category.

Are you disappointed that Marvel is not moving quickly on a sequel for Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange? What do you hope to see in the Doctor Strange sequel? Would you prefer that the sequel be a bit more spookier or wilder? Let us know in the comments section.
